Maurice C. Ridpath, age 96, of Hingham, MA entered eternal life on October 12, 2016. He was born in Western, Saline County, Nebraska. He was one of five children to Pat and Mary Ridpath. He left his home on the farm and enlisted with the US Coast Guard right after the start of WWII, serving his country for over five years. For his service in World War II and duty in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, he was awarded the Bronze Star Victory Medal for WWII and four ribbons. He married, started a family and lived in Nebraska for some time before moving to Hingham. He is survived by his daughter, Sarah (Sally) and her husband Reverend Donald Pitches of Carlstadt, NJ; daughter-in- law Sharon (Maitland) Ridpath of Chester, VA; and his sisters Dorothy of Iowa and Lucille of Washington.He was predeceased by his wife Marjorie (Ferris); his children Susan and her late husband Don Romano of Hingham, Stephen Ridpath of Chester, VA and Martha Nawab of Hingham; and his brother Francis of Nebraska and sister Florence of Kansas. Maurice also leaves behind six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren, as well as many nieces, grandnieces, grand nephews, and many, many friends. He was a devoted Christian and a dedicated member of the South Shore Baptist Church where he had served as a volunteer Boys’ Brigade leader, Sunday School teacher, groundskeeper, an assistant to the treasurer and a trustee. While Maurice was a hard worker,working full time until he was 80 years old, he was a farmer through heart and soul. He found great worth in working the land to provide for his family while in Nebraska as well as solace and gratification in his personal garden in Hingham. He loved to share his vegetables with friends and family who would come by the house to visit. He will be remembered as a sweet, kind, hardworking and friendly man always with a story to share. He will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at a future date. Arrangements by the Clancy-Lucid Funeral Home of Weymouth, MA.
