Weymouth-Arthur E. Tierney, Jr. age 86, died peacefully on Sunday October 7th 2018 at Colonial Nursing and Rehabilitation in Weymouth with loving family and many resident friends and thoughtful care givers by his side.
Arthur was the devoted husband of Geraldine V. Tierney (Murray) who preceded him in death in 2007. Arthur was the father of the late David P. Tierney and Mark Tierney of Canton, MA and grandfather of Allyson and Ryan Tierney of Medfield, MA.
He was the brother of Mary Ann Woodward of Swampscott and her late husband Don Woodward . He was caring uncle to Rosemary Bevins of Peabody and her late husband Bill, Susan Power and her husband Larry Martinez of Colorado and Christopher Power and his wife Carolyn of MarbleHead.
He is also survived by many close and wonderful friends from Weymouth and the South Shore.
Born in Revere in 1931, he was the son of the late Arthur E. Tierney and Margaret Tierney (Doherty) from the Point of Pines, Revere, MA.
He moved to Weymouth in 1965 and recently transitioned to Colonial Nursing. He graduated from Boston College High School in 1949 and Boston College with the class of 1953, where he majored in Business Administration.
He also attended Suffolk University and received his MBA in 1971.
He served in the US Navy from 1953-1955 at the South Weymouth Navy Airbase as an Aviation Store Keeper.
He spent his professional career at State Street Bank and Trust Company in Boston from 1956-1979. He then transitioned to GTE in Quincy from 1979 till 1993, when he retired at age 62. He stayed active with Sacred Heart Parish and Weymouth Seniors Group in retirement.
He will be missed tremendously by all his family and wide circle of friends.
Funeral from the Clancy-Lucid Funeral Home, 100 Washington St., Weymouth on Friday October 12th 2018, at 11 a.m. Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 12 noon.Visiting hours on Thursday October 11th, from 3 until 7 p.m. Burial in Village Cemetery, Weymouth.
