Weymouth– George T. Dowd, Jr of Weymouth, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 8, 2021. He was 86 years old. A lifelong resident of Weymouth, George graduated from Weymouth High School, after which he served his country in the United States Army. He graduated from Northeastern University in 1958 with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and later received his MBA at Suffolk University. George’s true passion for baseball and incredible talent on the pitcher’s mound will be remembered by many.  A star-player at Northeastern University, he was often referred to as “golden-armed” and “one of the best ballplayers in Northeastern history.” He was inducted into the NU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1985. George’s engineering and managerial career with Yankee Atomic Electric Company allowed him to travel throughout the U.S. and Europe making presentations on the nuclear power industry. George served the town of Weymouth as a town meeting member for 10 years, Public Works Commissioner for 4 years and Selectman for 3 terms.  He was always his happiest when surrounded by his family and his dogs, with a frappe in hand. George is survived by his wife Anita C. Dowd (Mongeon) formerly of Waltham.  He was the son of the late George T. Dowd and Mary F. Dowd (Spence)  and was predeceased by sisters Pauline Warwel and Dorothy Marini. He leaves behind his son George T. Dowd III of Winnetka, IL and his children George IV, Ryan and Brody; his son Timothy Dowd and his wife Denise of Norfolk, MA and their children Connor and Tyler; his daughter Amy Murphy (Dowd) and her husband David of Scituate and their children Luke, Allie, Charlie and Tessie; and his daughter Jodi Burm (Dowd) and her husband Jeremy of Hingham and their children Sadie, Leo and Mitchell. Funeral from the Clancy-Lucid Funeral Home, 100 Washington St., Weymouth Landing on Friday May 14 at 9:30 AM.  Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth at 10:30  AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The Mass will be live streamed on the YouTube channel; type in SHSTM Collaborative. Once on the channel home page, put his last name in search and hit enter.  This video can be viewed any time in the next few weeks. Visiting hours on Thursday from 4-8 PM  Burial in  Village Cemetery Weymouth. All Covid precautions are in order.

    I send my love and prayers to the entire Dowd family. As George’s niece, I have many fond memories of my time with him and those he loved. I remember most our family trips to the cape and all the fun we had being together. Uncle George will be missed but never forgotten.
