It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Gregory LaRocco, who entered into eternal life on August 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 22, 1954, Greg spent 69 wonderful years as a lifelong resident of Weymouth, deeply rooted in East Weymouth. He built a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Betsy” Rae LaRocco. Together, they raised three children in a happy and loving home: Karra Elizabeth LaRocco of Brookline, MA, Keryn Rae LaRocco of Weymouth, MA, and Justin Gregory LaRocco (and his wife, Kelsey LaRocco) of Brockton, MA.
Greg was predeceased by his cherished parents, John Robert and Claire “Mimi” LaRocco. He also leaves behind his loving sisters, Denise Eacobacci and her husband, Barry Kravitz, of Plymouth, MA, and Nina LaRocco and her husband, Bob Stewart, of Weymouth, MA, as well as many cousins, loved ones, and countless friends.
Greg’s favorite role in life was being “World’s Best Papa” to his four adored grandchildren: Mya Rae LaRocco, Everlee Louise Lorden, Lincoln Gregory LaRocco, and Theodore Charles LaRocco.
Professionally, Greg was a talented welder and fabricator, proudly owning J.G.L. Welding Inc. on Broad Street in Weymouth for many years. His workshop was more than just a place of work; it was a haven where friends gathered, stories were swapped, deer were expertly butchered, and laughter echoed throughout.
Outside of his shop, Greg was renowned for his culinary skills, turning meals into celebrations that brought people together, filling his home with warmth and joy. Like his father before him, Greg was an exceptional baseball player and spent many years coaching Weymouth Youth Baseball, where he was particularly proud of his numerous undefeated seasons. As a team manager, he took great pride in guiding young ballplayers.
Greg’s talents extended beyond the baseball field and workshop. He was an incredible motorcycle builder, with his beautiful bike featured in Easyriders Magazine. He had many interests and hobbies, including a love for hunting and gardening. Whether relaxing in his perfectly manicured yard by the swimming pool or bombing around town in his camouflage Bronco, affectionately named “Wilderness One,” Greg found joy in the simple pleasures of life.
As a multi-generational member of the Sons of Italy in Weymouth, Greg dedicated many days to organizing and preparing for pancake breakfasts and other fundraisers to benefit the Lodge.
Greg was a man who loved his family fiercely and leaves behind a legacy of strong family ties, good character, and hardworking hands. He was truly one of the best, and he will be forever missed.
Please join us in celebrating John Gregory LaRocco’s legendary life on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 1 to 5 PM.
I first met Justin fishing in Weymouth. As a shy kid I remember seeing the camo bronco and thinking it was the coolest ride in Weymouth and I approached the pond near my house . Greg taught me how to catch bass and basics of pond fishing something I still do to this day and will always remember the kindness he showed me and that’s how I first met my good friend Justin .
Greg was a wonderful Brother-in-law. We loved his BBQs and parties. He was a loving father and grandfather, and he will be sorely missed.

Such a fun loving guy. We’ll always remember “the Glove” and the Bottlecap Cafe.
Greg was larger than life! So loud! So funny! Not a shy bone in his body, he had comments and jokes, ideas and advice for everyone he spoke with–and he spoke with everyone! My memories of Greg will be always be of laughter, good food and fun times. He was a great guy and will be greatly missed.
