Linda M. (Buchanan) “Cannon” McVay, age 76, entered into eternal life on March 22, 2026. Linda was a lifelong Braintree native and member of the Class of 1967. Linda graduated from Boston State Teachers College in 1973 and was actively involved in her children’s education from kindergarten through middle school, which included running an advanced writing program at Ross Elementary School.  As her children would move onto high school and beyond, Mrs. McVay became a certified nursing assistant and worked for Mass Respiratory Hospital in Braintree for many years and afterwards for the Old Colony Hospice from where she retired. Beloved wife of Robert F. McVay. Devoted mother of Robert F. Jr. of Ponta Vedra Beach, Fla. and the late Melissa L. McVay. Loving “Grams” to Ellie and Tucker. Sister of the late Cheryl Buchanan. Linda was devoted parishioner of both St. Thomas More Church and Sacred Heart Church. Linda always loved to laugh, to smile, and to spend precious time with the children, which often included baking or taking the kids to school or sports practices, and even helping her son with his paper route.  She loved the magic of the holiday season.  She loved all of her New England and Boston sports teams.  She was extremely proud of where she was from.  Like most of us, she’d always have her music on in the kitchen and in the car (almost always Neil Diamond). Linda loved taking trips to Nantasket beach and to take Robert Jr. and Melissa to spend the day with their “Gramps” at his home in Norwood.  Family gatherings at Nana’s house on Cape Cod Lane, summer cookouts in Whitman, and frequent lunches and dinners with life-long best friends was a theme throughout her life. In the last few years since going down to Florida, she was inseparable from her cat named Owl. Always the early riser, she loved having her breakfast with just her and Tucker, and she loved helping Ellie study for her vocab quizzes each week. Funeral from the Clancy-Lucid Funeral Home, 100 Washington St., Weymouth Landing on Saturday, March 28 at 9:30 am. Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, East Weymouth at 10:30 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Friday, from 3 to 6 pm. Burial in Plain St. Cemetery, Braintree. If desired, donations may be made in Linda’s name to the animal shelter of your choice.

So sorry to hear of Linda’s passing. I enjoyed many years of seeing her and Bob at Dr. Colella’s office. One of my favorite couples. Thoughts and prayers are with you Robbie and your family.
