Lucy R. (Ostrowski) Kazanowski, age 96, of Braintree, entered into eternal life after a brief illness surrounded by her devoted children on December 20, 2022

Lucy was born at home in Dorchester to Waclaw Ostrowski and Regina Andruszkiewicz Ostrowski. She was the older sister to her beloved late siblings Euginia Pierce, Edward Ostrowski, and Felix Ostrowski. She graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School, Boston Clerical School, and Bryant and Straton Business School.

During WWII she worked for the War Department at the Watertown Arsenal and volunteered at Boston City Hospital. She was employed as a secretary for Boston Mutual from 1945-1952. In January 1951, she married Joseph C. Kazanowski and soon moved their growing family to the town of Braintree, where they were to reside for the rest of their lives. Lucy was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years. She was determined to work through her grief with purpose in her life. She took Russian language and computer courses. She delivered Meals On Wheels. She took her grandchildren on “Mystery Rides,” which were always educational and memorable.

Lucy will be remembered for her intelligence, strength, and fierce independence. She remained active and was an avid reader, baker, and knitter until the end of her days. Sitting wasn’t a time to be idle. Lucy was proud of her Polish roots.  She was a charter member of the Polish Business and Professional Women’s Club of Boston and the Massachusetts Federation of Polish Women’s Club.

Lucy leaves behind her devoted children, Thomas J. Kazanowski of Duxbury, Pauline Carey and her husband Daniel of Wrentham, and Janine Bergeron and her husband Wayne of Dennis. Mother-in-law of the late Kathleen (Driscoll) Kazanowski.  Loving babcia to Jennifer Mucciarone,  Robert Carey, James Carey, Rebecca Bergeron, Michael Bergeron, Thomas R. Kazanowski, and Michelle Kazanowski, as well as great-grandchildren Savannah, Kingston, Jordan, Gia and Wes.  Funeral Mass in Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont St. Duxbury on Friday, January 6, at 10:00 am.  Her family will greet relatives and friends prior to the Mass, after 9:30, in the church. She will be interned at 12:45 with her beloved husband, Joe, at the National Cemetery in Bourne.
