
M. Claire (Murphy) Collins, age 91, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2023 surrounded by her family. Claire was born and raised in Dorchester and has lived in Braintree for 56 years. Mrs. Collins was a 56-year parishioner of the Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth.
Claire was a long-time member of the Sacred Heart Church choir and also sang in the choir at the former Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Brighton when she was a high school student.
Gardening was one of her favorite hobbies. Claire enjoyed walks and hikes. Some of her favorite walks were at Pond Meadow Park in Braintree, the Blue Hills, and City Point. She had been a Cub Scout Den Mother when her children were younger. She loved reading books by Irish author Maeve Binchy. She camped and traveled with her family and friends. In later years Claire traveled to Ireland and Italy.
Claire earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in History in 1997 at the University of Massachusetts/Boston, years after her children were grown.
She was the beloved wife of the late Herbert J. Collins. She was the devoted mother to Herbert R. Collins and his wife Sandra McArthur of Clinton; Anne Parker and her husband William of Franklin; John Collins and his partner Alisa Mann of Plymouth; and George Collins and his wife Elaine of Braintree.
She was the loving big sister to Walter Murphy and his wife Maureen of Marblehead; Francis Murphy and his wife Francine of Quogue, New York; and the late George and Joseph Murphy. She is affectionately known as Grammy to her grandchildren Carolyn, Brad, Michael, Christine, Patrick and Suzanne. She is Great-Grammy to Timothy and Brendan.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours at the Clancy-Lucid Funeral Home,100 Washington St. Weymouth, on Friday, October 27 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Funeral from the Clancy Lucid Funeral Home on Saturday, October 28, at 9 am. Funeral Mass will be at St. Albert the Great Church, 1140 Washington St., Weymouth at 10 am. We still have memories of Claire & Herb when they came to over to Ireland & Grandad (Austin Gavin, Claire’s uncle) was still fit enough in those days, he took them out in the punt to the island.
Mum is currently reminiscing about her visit to Claire & Herb in the early 90s.
