Ronald L. DuBois, 88 years old, of Braintree, died on July 5 after a brief illness.
Born in Spokane, WA, Ron was raised and educated in Montana, Washington, Nebraska, and Illinois. He graduated from Cathedral Boys High School in Springfield, IL in 1952 and then attended Fournier Institute of Technology in Lemont, IL. He entered Maryknoll Seminary in Ossining, NY and was ordained a priest in 1963. Ron received a Doctorate in Philosophy from St. Louis University. He taught at Maryknoll College in Glen Ellen, IL and at the Maryknoll Noviciate in Hingham, MA, later serving as a Missioner in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Ron worked in the Human Resources Department at State Street Bank in North Quincy for 23 years
He was involved with numerous non-profit organizations. He was the founder and executive director of the Chi Rho Fund which provides financial assistance to former Maryknoll Fathers, Brothers, Sisters, and Lay Missioners. Ron served as a board member and past president of the Esther R. Sanger Center for Compassion/Quincy Crisis Center. He was also a founding member of Voice of the Faithful. He was also a Director of Sharing, Inc., a non-profit organization in Braintree.
Beloved husband of Kathleen “Kay” (O’Keefe) Doherty. Devoted stepfather of Janine M. Doherty of Quincy, Michelle A. Doherty of Braintree, and Colleen M. Benevides and her husband Jeff of Kingston. Also survived by cherished twin grandchildren, Rosalie Kathleen and Jenson William Benevides (who referred to Ron and his wife, Kay, collectively as “PapaGeema”). Son of the late M. James and Marion E. (Sterk) DuBois. Brother of Michael D. DuBois of Nashville, TN, the late Richard J. DuBois, his widow Sally and his deceased wife Susan, and the late Mary Jo Burkhalter and her late husband Hal. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
