
Ronald S. Smith, retired Boston Police Sergeant, 85 years old, of East Falmouth and Naples Florida, formerly of Braintree, entered into eternal life suddenly in Naples, Florida, on Saturday, December 10, 2022. Ron was born on November 9, 1937, in Boston, to Anne R. (Blake) and Alfred Smith. He grew up in Jamaica Plain, Roxbury, Dorchester, Roslindale, and he spent time in Kennebunk, ME with his maternal grandparents as a young child. Ron moved to Braintree in 1969, residing in Braintree until 2003. In his retirement he split his time between East Falmouth, and Naples, Florida. He graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School in 1955, and earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Boston State College. Ron served in the US Air Force from 1955 to 1957. He served the city of Boston as a Boston Police Officer, from 1966 to 2002, rising to the rank of Sergeant, working in Roxbury, District C11 (Fields Corner), District D4 (South End), and retired from the Gun Range at Moon Island. Upon his retirement, he served as a Special Police Officer in Braintree, from 2003 to 2011.
Loving husband of 56 years to Margaret K. (Pierce) Smith. Beloved father to Jeffrey and his wife Mary of Braintree, Pamela Guilbault and her husband Steven of Braintree, and Jason of Ashland, MA. Beloved brother of Betty Anne Kullich of Naples, Florida, Stephen Smith of Mexico, and Susan Walker of Utah. Loving Papa to Ashley, Blake, Colin, Michael, Camille, Kelly, Shivaun and Brianna. His grandson-in-law, Daniel Fullam Jr., wears Ron’s badge number as a police officer for the Boston P.D..
Mr. Smith was dedicated to his family, his faith, his country, and his job. He will be fondly remembered for his smile, his sense of humor and his gentle spirit. Ron loved traveling, reading, and attending the sporting events of his grandchildren. Another one of his favorite things to do was to go on walks, always with dog cookies in his pocket, to feed the neighborhood dogs. He will be deeply missed by all who had the great honor to know him. Memorial visiting hours at the Clancy-Lucid Funeral Home, 100 Washington Street, Weymouth on December 28 from 9:30 am until 11:30 am. Funeral Mass in the Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial is private.
