Valeria M. Bracken
Braintree, Valeria M. “Val” (Potcner) Bracken of Braintree, formerly of Hazelton PA, age 83, entered into eternal life on August 2nd after a courageous and hard fought 2 ½ year battle with ovarian cancer. Val was born and raised in Hazelton PA and moved to Dorchester in her late teens. She has lived in Braintree for the last 59 years. Mrs. Bracken was the consummate loving Mom and homemaker raising her 4 children until they were grown and then worked as a receptionist for the Colonial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Weymouth for over 30 years and retired at the ripe age of 80. Val was a beautiful, humble, and loving individual and if one needed advice and direction she was our moral compass. Mrs. Bracken was mostly known for her devotion to her family. Her best friend and soulmate was her husband Jack. They took great pride in raising their 4 children and their 7 grandchildren who became the highlight of their lives. Val found abundant joy attending all of her children’s and grandchildren’s athletic events, communions, confirmations, music events and school plays. Val was a generous and loving woman who always gave of herself and others. Her faith was her core and foundation where she was a long time member of the Sodality Club at Sacred Heart Parish. She always welcomed everyone into her home and made all feel special. Everyone enjoyed Val’s relaxed and easy style and her great sense of humor. Her nickname from all of our friends growing up was Mrs. C (Cunningham) from Happy Days. Val cherished her Braintree neighborhood, often referring to the neighbors as her second family as she was affectionately known as Aunt Val. Val has left an enduring legacy of hope and love in her lifetime which will be a guiding light and shining star for future generations to come. Devoted and loving wife of 60 years to her beloved husband John “Jack” Bracken who passed away in 2015. She leaves her cherished children Jay and his wife Lisa of Bellingham, Paul and his wife Cheryl of Windham, N.H., Janice M. Bracken of Braintree and Michael and his wife Terri of Shrewsbury.
